What is a Play and Learn Session?

Play and learn sessions are a fun way for children aged 0-5 years old to play and share new experiences with their parents, grandparents or carers.

During each session we offer a range of carefully planned activities both indoors and outdoors to help stimulate children’s senses and imagination as well as aiding their development and well being.

Activities on offer are all based around learning through play. They include opportunities for children to explore messy play, sand, water and mark-making. There is construction, creative play and quality toys and equipment for free play. It is a good idea to dress your child in suitable clothes that will not matter if they get messy in.

There is a safe area made available for babies and age-appropriate toys and resources such as treasure baskets, gyms and tummy time mats to encourage even the youngest of children to explore and learn through play.

Parents and carers are encouraged to take an active part in each session joining in with their child/children activities and support their learning.

A healthy snack is offered to the children during the session and soft drinks are available for both adults and children.

There is a rhymes and story time at the end of each session where children are able to sing, play instruments and share books to help develop their listening and language skills.

The sessions are run by Outreach workers under the guidance of the Children’s Centre Teacher. Together they provide a welcoming and relaxed environment for your child/children to play and learn and the opportunity for you to gain information, support and advice for all the family.
