As you may know there will be changes this year to children’s centres and how Surrey County Council supports families.
The new approach will involve Surrey County Council focusing its resources on helping the families most in need of support, which means that some of the existing children’s centres will close and others will become Family Centres. Surrey County Council will no longer provide universal services for all families at Family Centres but other organisations, such as health visitors, may offer these at the centres and at other community venues.
You can use the Family Information Directory to find universal and other services, support groups, activities, events and more.
The changes will take place at different times across Surrey’s 11 districts and boroughs, so to make sure families can find out what is happening in their area the district and borough pages on the Family Information Service website will be regularly updated from April. They will provide information about when current activities offered at children’s centres will close and where Family Centres will open.
In addition there is a new page on the website which provides information about the final proposals that were agreed by Surrey County Council’s Cabinet. This also has a link to the results of the consultation that was undertaken to get views and suggestions on the draft proposals.
At Clarendon Family Centre we are continuing to offer a full timetable of activities until the end of July 2019 and plans are being put in place to become a Family Centre from 1st September 2019.
In Spelthorne there will be two main family centres and two satellite centres. Clarendon will become a Family Centre and so will Stanwell, Saxon and Buckland Centres will be satellite centres run under the umbrella of Clarendon Family Centre.
Clarendon Family Centre and its satellites centres will cover Ashford, Staines, Shepperton, Sunbury and surrounding areas , while Stanwell Family Centre will be mainly for those families living in Stanwell , however we will be working very closely to ensure that there is a good balance of services across Spelthorne.
As the children's centres start to become family centres some of their services will no longer run, for example most play and learn sessions will not be available from August 2019.
For the most up to date information on opening times, for when services will be available until and how to access them, please visit the individual centres websites.
Family Centre's work together to support families with children aged 0-11 years that are the most vulnerable.
By working together with everyone that supports children, Family Centres will promote the upbringing of children with their birth families and work with partners and families to ensure that children can thrive whilst remaining safely at home.
At Clarendon, Buckland and Saxon Family Centres we will support parents and carers who request additional help so they can improve outcomes for their children. We aim to provide a caring and nurturing environment where all families feel supported.
We will endeavour to act as soon as a problem emerges, share information and provide effective family support. By offering, timely support to enable children and families to overcome difficulties and become more resilient our aim is for children and families to thrive.
Our services are designed to gain families confidence, identify strengths and needs and support practical and achievable solutions as early as possible through the right amount of information, advice an support.
